The history of Akaki Tsereteli State University began eight decades ago and, currently, it is a distinguished higher education institution with excellent traditions in Georgia, which has earned a worthy place in the cultural-intellectual and moral education of the Georgian nation. As a result of personnel training, high level of scientific potential and extensive connections with scientific institutions of advanced countries, the university has gained universal recognition. Akaki Tsereteli State University of Kutaisi was, in fact, formed in the heart of Tbilisi Ivane Javakhishvili State University. In July 1930, the government abolished the Tbilisi State University and created four independent higher education institutions on its basis. One of them was the State Pedagogical Institute, which functioned in Tbilisi from that time until 1933. In 1933, the mentioned institute continued to function in Kutaisi from February 13 of the same year. In 1933-1990, the school existed as the State Pedagogical Institute named after Aleksandre Tsulukidze. In 1990, the higher education institution was transformed into the State University named after Akaki Tsereteli of Kutaisi, which was a logical crowning of the great activity that the institute has been successfully engaged in for almost six decades of its existence. According to the resolution No. 39 of the Government of Georgia of February 23, 2006, the merger of public law legal entities - Akaki Tsereteli State University of Kutaisi and Kutaisi N. Reorganization of Muskhelishvili State Technical University through their union. The status of the educational institution was defined as a university and it was named Akaki Tsereteli State University. N. of Kutaisi The polytechnic institute named after Muskhelishvili was granted official status on September 23, 1973, and it was solemnly opened on September 1, 1974. The school was named after academician Niko Muskhelishvili in 1977. On September 21, 1992, Kutaisi Polytechnic Institute named after N. Muskhelishvili was granted the status of a university and it was called Kutaisi Niko Muskhelishvili State Technical University. According to the resolution No. 353 of the Government of Georgia on November 16, 2010, the legal entity under public law - Sukhumi State University of Subtropical Agriculture joined Akaki Tsereteli State University. In 1952, the Agricultural Institute was opened in Kutaisi, its historical, geographical and economic center, with the motive of serving the subtropical agriculture of Western Georgia. In 1959, it was moved to Sukhumi (Abkhazia) - a typical subtropical zone - and was named the Institute of Subtropical Agriculture of Georgia. In the 90s of the 20th century, due to the developments in Abkhazia, the institute found itself in Kutaisi as a refugee. Prof. V.
